A SMART LEATHER

for Health, Wellbeing and Safety Monitoring
in Automotive Vehicles

OUR PROJECT

CardioLeather is an 18-months project co-funded by Portugal Compete 2020 research and innovation program which aims to produce a conductive leather with built-in physiological signal acquisition electronics applied to steering wheels and other vehicle interior surfaces, allowing non-intrusive monitoring of the occupants’ identity, health, and wellbeing.

Through advanced materials engineering technologies, in conjunction with acquisition electronics, signal processing, and machine learning algorithms, it is intended to transform a common coating product and create new business models and products that use this new generation of leather.

HOW IT WORKS

Material
Functionalization

The functionalization of materials boots the replication scale, vital for the automotive industry.

Electronics and Processing

The development of methods to acquire and automatically process the ECG considers the leather engineered in our project.

Final
User

The previous steps constitute an essential supply chain to create a product for the automotive industry.

Simulation and Validation

The validation of this technology, through its integration into a simulator, allows us to demonstrate the whole concept of our project..
